Redfin marries technology ��online listings, mobile applications and easy-to-access market data ��with the human touch of on-the-ground agents. Redfin also cuts commission costs and pays agents with salaries and bonuses tied to customer satisfaction and deal volume.

The company started its service in 2006. Today, it has annual revenue in excess of $50 million and 1,000 employees, operates in 22 major markets nationwide and will turn a profit this year, Kelman says.
